Title: Steel Descaling Specialist

In addition to annual initiatives, the key accountabilities of this position are:

Customer Engagement

  • Carry out site visits to discuss the customer requirements to be able to provide RMI’s best technical offer to meet their needs.
  • Assist the sales team on customer visits to provide technical advice on the customers’ requirements.
  • Support the service team with any issues which may arise during installation, commissioning and operation of the steel plant.

Design and Development

  • Support design and development activities for high pressure pump products and systems used in the steel descaling market.
  • Provide input to the engineering team to allow them to provide concept design and drawings, BOM structures, GA drawings, P&ID’s, O&M manuals, manufacturing drawings and technical training programs. 
  • Assist the sales team with producing tenders including gathering accurate costs for the descale system components
  • Assist in developing third party suppliers for the RMI’s descaling system offering

Project Management

  • Project manage all related tender requests, project files and manuals.
  • Work with relevant departments to create and monitor project plans for active projects.
  • Lead project management meetings
  • Interface with client representatives to ensure project delivery

Product Support and improvement

  • Work with the engineering team to create standardised offerings for the steel descaling market.
  • Support product improvements for lower material, lower cost and improved reliability.
  • Work with the sourcing team to locate and procure critical components for the standardised product offerings.

Role Requirements

  • Degree / HND / HNC in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • Understanding of steel descaling, the process, equipment, suppliers and work environment.
  • Understanding of fluid power systems, high/low pressure pumps, variable speed drives and pump control systems
  • Project management experience
  • Ability to communicate in an open and authentic manner in all situations
  • The ability to write reports/complete paperwork accurately and legibly.
  • The ability to plan and manage a varied workload and have a pro-active and flexible attitude.

Title: Junior Engineer – Mechanical

Company: RMI Pressure Systems (Armstrong Fluid Technology Group Company)

Reports to: Engineering Manager – R&D and Systems

The Junior Engineer – Mechanical will be involved in a variety of engineering-related activities which include product design, support, and testing. With focus on the design development and engineering of products for mining and industrial segments.

This position is based out of Manchester, United Kingdom, with some travel requirements and working closely with the Research & Development team in the UK and the Mechanical Engineering team in India.

Job Description

    • Supporting the development of new products/technologies.
    • Creation of concept design and drawings, bill of materials structures, general arrangement drawings, manufacturing drawings etc.,
  • Product Support and improvement
  • Support the rationalization of existing products and parts.
  • Research/identify new technologies to implement in the current product portfolio.
  • Product Testing
  • Create testing plans and monitor testing of high-pressure pumps as part of research and development.

Essential Skills/Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering/Mechanical Design or in-house training in Design (Mechanical) from a reputable Institute/Organization.
  • Ability to apply sound engineering skills to design and validate high-pressure pump products.
  • Basic understanding of SolidWorks 3D CAD Package.
  • Have a strong level of initiative and problem-solving skills.
  • Be a strong team player and ability to work collaboratively or under supervision with a focus on results.
  • Ability to communicate in an open and authentic manner in all situations.

Title: Application Design Engineer – Systems

Location: Based in or close proximity to Jasper, Alabama , USA

Reporting To: General Manager RMI – North America

In addition to annual initiatives, the key accountabilities of this position are:

Design and Development

  • Lead design and development activities for high pressure pump products and systems used in the mining, steel descaling and industrial segments.
  • Provide engineering input including concept design and drawings, BOM structures, GA drawings, P&ID’s, O&M manuals, manufacturing drawings and compilation of technical training programs.  
  • Support the regional sales, service and manufacturing teams.
  • Support procurement with sourcing critical components for descaling systems
  • Assist the sales team with producing tenders including gathering accurate costs for the system components.

Project Management

  • Project manage all related tender requests, project files and manuals.
  • Work with relevant departments to create and monitor project plans for active projects.
  • Coordinate changes to the relevant personnel.
  • Participate in weekly project meetings.
  • Interface with client representatives to ensure project delivery.

Product Support and improvement

  • Support the rationalisation of existing products and component parts.
  • Create standardised offerings for the steel descaling and industrial segments.
  • Support product improvements for lower material, lower cost and improved reliability.
  • Work with the sourcing team to locate and procure critical components, monitor cost reduction targets for the standardised product offerings.
  • Coordinate changes to the global sales and service teams.

Role Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • Understanding of steel descaling, the process, equipment, suppliers and work environment.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience working in a design department or similar engineering environment.
  • Hydraulic and mechanical engineering design, preferably on rotating equipment
  • Advanced Solid Works and autoCAD skills
  • Understanding of fluid power systems
  • Design of equipment for use above 100 bar
  • Understanding of variable speed drives and motors
  • Steel descaling and industrial pumping equipment industry experience
  • Experience of positive displacement plunger pump design
  • Project management experience
  • Ability to communicate in an open and authentic manner in all situations
  • The ability to write reports/complete paperwork accurately and legibly.
